Girls Hockey team wins gold medal

   The Hamilton  girls’ hockey team recently returned from the 2011 International Children’s Winter Games held in Kelowna BC from January 26th to January 31st. The  Girls played six games in three days and went undefeated. They won the gold medal game downing the hometown Kelowna Rockets by a score of 3-1. Maddie Maitz, Alysha Hickey and Brianne Burrough scored the Hamilton goals and Ashlyn Babiak was brilliant in goal for the Hamilton. 

    Head Coach Ron Agnew called the Winter Games the “event of a lifetime” for the girls and couldn’t say enough about the warm hospitality of the host city. 

   These were the 5th ICG Winter Games and the first to be held outside of Europe. This was the first time that the sport of hockey was included in the games. More than 700 athletes from 38 different cities around the world took part in the games.
